Guess I couldn’t stop at five could I? Plan your trip to Alaska and discover the beautiful sights for yourself. You won’t be disappointed!
Witness the epic splendor of the “Great Land” for yourself. If your short on time you can cruise the inside passage for 7 days. It is one of the world’s most scenic waterways. Sail from Seattle or Vancouver and visit the frontier Alaskan ports of Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan. Some of the cruises will also visit Victoria British Columbia but the main event will be the glaciers – Glacier Bay, Hubbard Glacier or Tracy Arm Fjord.
You will have many shore excursions to choose from – here are a few of the favorites. Ketchican, see the Totem poles & Lumberjack show, Glide through the rainforest canopy on a Zipline expedition or my personal favorite – soar above it all on a float plane with “Ketchikan’s Exclusive Flightseeing & Crab Feast” it was spectacular!
In Skagway you must visit the Red Onion Saloon, since 1898 it has been Alaska’s exclusive brothel! One of their lovely Madams will take you on a tour of the upstairs and tell you stories of the famous women who endured the Klondike Gold Rush while helping the miners quench more than their thirst. You may even catch a glimpse of Lydia, their resident ghost.
Another great excursion from Skagway is to take the “White Pass Scenic Railway” this is a train ride aboard the historic Gold Rush-era White Pass & Yukon Railroad, each journey is a little different but we visited Liarsville gold rush camp and traveled over several trestle bridges a really nice day trip!
For Juneau, Mendenhall Glacier is the place to be – whether you go by tour bus to the visitor center & walk down to the Glacier or land on it via helicopter – it is spectacular to see. You can also take a dog sled ride on this river of ice. This is also a great spot to take a Whale-watching cruise. You might like to just walk around the town and visit the Red Dog Saloon.
If you have more time you can extend your vacation with a tour package into the heart of Alaska. You can visit Anchorage, Denali, Mt. McKinley, Fairbanks, Talkeetna, Kenai, or Copper River to name a few. I have been to Alaska three times so far and do plan to return, every spot that I have visited has been beautiful but I have not seen it all yet…I will go back again. I will not take time to tell you about all these wonderful places here, but please call or email anytime as I love to talk about this beautiful and popular destination!
